I think I promised to post a photo of this thing a few months ago. We now have final hardware. Getting closer...

Glenn, I don't remember exactly but I think he said they are for part of the auto-tuning process. Its in the first few pages of this thread I think.

Just went and looked the first post of the thread and he mentions
Quote:
MS-8 comes with the pre-amp/amp, a small display, a wireless remote control, a binaural microphone and a setup CD.

They just look like headphones...actually, that's the binaural microphone. Instead of a speaker in each earpiece, there's a microphone on the outside. It's hard to see the hole for the mic in that picture. The ear pads just help to mute the test tones while you're tuning.

Here's a picture of the microphone side. Behind the little hole is a Panasonic WM-61 clone. It's the same microphone that EVERYONE uses. The correction file for the microphone and the shape of the body of the headphones is stored in the MS-8 memory and applied to each of the measurements. The baseline measurements are made with a KEMAR head-microphone--so after the correction filter, it's pretty close to usiing a KEMAR head for your measurements.

Andy,
Was this the hardware for the most part that has been shown (at CES and/or SEMA) for quite some time?

I love what it can do, not sure about the processor case itself (doesn't have that JBL "look" like some of the current amps).

Juan

Hey Juan,
Yeah, The first year at CES, we showed a hand-built early sample in my Volvo. About 20% of the actual software worked in that one. Last year at CES we showed a later sample--off-tool heatsink and hand-built PCB that included about 60% of the total software package. The picture above is final hardware--production-level stuff. That's what it'll look like.
