The rumor that I have heard from a board members employee is that( gulp ) Denver, Colorado is going to be the possible Finals location for this years World Finals.
NEW YORK CITY=1780 Miles
ATLANTA=1404 Miles
CLEVELAND=1333 Miles
TORONTO=1500 Miles
BOSTON=1975 Miles
CHARLOTTE=1576 Miles
ORLANDO=1842 Miles
HIGHLANDS NEW JERSEY=1800 Miles

I hope that the Information that I was given is incorrect because Denver would be a POOR choice .

Uh, can you say "Hello USAC, please forward a competitor's membership form to the following address"

Thumbs up

wah-wah-wah...

So you have to drive a few extra miles, er, I mean you have to fly an hour longer while somebody trailers your ride there.

Denver is cool for me, 830 miles would be a nice change from 1450 miles to OK city or 1925 miles to Greenville.

Suck it up or quit... haha

Denver sounds good to me - depending on where my wife goes to finish her civil engenering degree.

Count me in for a finals appearance, provided I can get some events in my zone that I dont promote myself, and accumulate some cap points.

The drive doesn't really scare me, but do they think that we'll have a big turn out in a dead zone? I could see building up the area for a year or two then holding finals there...

Keep it central, or base it upon where your majority of paying members are located.

LA = 1016 MILES
PHOENIX = 909 MILES
BOISE = 830 MILES
SEATTLE = 1331 MILES
DALLAS = 879 MILES
TULSA = 693 MILES
KENNER, LA = 1386.8 MILES
KANSAS CITY = 600 MILES
CHICAGO = 1004 MILES

I hope that the (sarcastic) information I have provided shows that depending on where you live ANY location (in this case, Denver) may/may not be a POOR choice. For anyone in the west, it doesn't look too bad compared to the past 11 years’ location.

Finals location is more a matter of convince than anything else. Folks who are serious about attending finals will attend it it's held at the North Pole in December. The reality is most IASCA competitors will never see finals outside of magazine coverage (notice we keep getting less of that?), and the serious lack of local shows for them to attend, IASCA's active membership has consistently fallen off. Nobody will join if they do not have a convenient local place to start competing.

We will be ultimately doomed not bad rules, or accusations of mismanagement, or rule changes, or half baked rules that do not make any sense, or poor judges, or power/channel classes, but LACK OF LOCAL SHOWS, and the local competitor that comes with it.

To simplify:

No local competitors = No sanctioning body.

No sanctioning body = No finals.

If you want to argue about the impact of changing classes, pros and cons of finals locations, prize money, too small trophies, or anything else short of the COLLECTIVE LARGEST PROBLEM FACING THE WHOLE AUTOSOUND COMMUNITY – POOR LOCAL SUPPORT - go ahead. Just don’t be too surprised to see a thread “What, no FINALS?!?!!” somewhere in your future.

I would hope IASCA has enough sense to have Finals in a Central location that is easy to get to for all.
I am not saying anymore until I see it in writing.

Focal,

I've done Tulsa, Dallas, and Greenville, driving straight through on most trips from start to finish. FYI, this was the first time my vehicle, any vehicle, was trailered anywhere by someone other than myself. I didn't have the time to take off of work to drive this year because I was getting married two weeks later. Those of us with real jobs and responsibilities cannot afford to take the time off of work to drive 2 days across the country for a weekend competition just to drive two days back. It worked great for me when I was in college and I blew off classes but life is different now. After having been involved with IASCA at a serious level since 1991, I may have to not compete because the possible location of the finals borders on the asinine. I, for one, have always viewed the qualifying shows as a necessary evil. Go to enough of them and you earn a ticket to the big dance. But if the big dance is inconvenient to attend, why tease myself with the local shows? IASCA should look at who makes up their membership and plan accordingly or, in the alternative, pick a central location (like USAC did) and have the event in the same place every year.

And of course you like Denver, just like I like So. Carolina. All the more reason why IASCA should go central USA. Or are you just bitter that you live on the wrong coast...
