Panels with a factory look

Does anyone have any idea how to make a panel resemble the factory console. Think backlit AC controls. I want to make a panel with glowing words to house on/off switches and sub controls. I was thinking of getting frosted plexi and painting everywhere that I don't want to glow. The other option was to get a thin sheet of ABS plastic and cut out the words and attach it to a frosted sheet of plexi. I have a Toyota Corolla XRS with Charcoal interior if that makes a difference.

The panel you described is probably screen printed. Find out if you have a screen printer near you that knows what you are looking to do and can assist.
