Question

Hello,

Looking to maybe find one of these amps to use for a nice powerful Bass amp. But can't find any user manuals online to explain any connections, or controls it might have. I got conflicting information about one feature. One person said it did have the din plug that would use the optional remote bass control. (similar to a/d/s orion, family.) And another said it didn't. So which is true? Or is that the difference between the A1200 and A1200.2

Also noticed a few Art Series amps that were for sale and said to be fixed or refurbished. Did these amps have a reputation for having problems???

To me they appear to be a good candidate for Serrious clean power but I see they are all atleast 7 years old now. A bit before I got into the nicer sounding stuff. So anyone out there want to share some of your experiences with the amp or what ya might know??

I don't own a A1200 Yet I would love to get my hands on one. I have the 1200 little brother the A600, and a A204.2. The Din plug as I recallwas for Phantom powering other PPI products like the X-overs, and Eq's. I never recall the din plug being specifically for a Remote Bass Control.

I do believe that the .2 models incoprated the Phantom power, and had a up-graded power supply internals over the standard Art series. You know I have some liturature on the Art Series line up. I will have to go take another look at it.

The thing I like so much about PPI ArtSeries was the fact that they were such a raw power amp. I don't mean that in the sense of massive power over other amps. I mean it as there are no bells and whistles in these amps. No internal x-overs, no plug in modules, no bass boostor controller, no funky stuff. Straight forward 12V power, Remote, gains, and speaker connections that is it.

Hello,

Thank you for the information so far. I have heard usually positive things about the performance of these amps. Any more info about their reliability??

And to Rockman:

Actually those are the two people I got the conflicting information from. So I assume that is the difference between the A1200 and A1200.2 as another poster mentioned

Thanks, any more info allways appreciated.

The difference between the original Art Series and the .2 was a mainly a power supply change. Along with being called the "bullet proof" power supplies, they added the feature that allowed the amp to be "muted" by something like the ACM-420 which varies the voltage on the remote line that allows for an instant on/off function.

As for the DIN, they are available in the older series, but not the .2 series. At the time of the release of the .2, the processor lineup changed to accomodate for just the RCA's rather than DIN's. But don't be led wrong, the DIN is just audio connection and +/- 15V for phantom power. It's not QBASS or anything of the sort, it was just another connection for the DIN processors instead of using RCA's.

If you'd like, shoot me an email at dhanisch@directed.com and I can get you any manuals that you'd like. We'll have them up on the new PPI website soon along with 99% of all the older equipment manuals.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Talk about customer service! Way to go, Dan! We appreciate you being here and helping out with the PPI/Orion questions.

I can't wait to try out the new subs. Do you know when they will be available?

Hey, no problem.

But the new subs should be out soon. I'm hearing it will take a couple months to get out to all the dealers, some sooner than others. But honestly, I'm quite unsure of any solid dates as of yet. Directed, as a whole, came out with like 400 new products this year, so things are pretty busy.

Hey Dan,

Yes, Thanks for the great info. I was hoping the PPI web site was still under construction. Glad to hear you will have a archive section soon for the old manuals. Sounds good.

Thanks
-Ray
