Question

I have a 99 Z28 with 2 JL10W3's in small sealed boxes, one on each side (JL stealthbox style).

PLaying around with WinISD, I found that bandpassing can really give some great SPL peaks.

I thinking about replacing the fold up security flap with a piece of MDF, which would basically make a front enclosure on the whole system. And then port it and tune it to 55hz (which is the peak of the system now). But, it would not be a 100% air tight setup. I do not care about sq, as this plate would only be put in place for idbl comps. Would I still get a nice bump, even with the leaks ?

Mike,

If you think about it, most sedans are already set up as you describe...they're just not tuned. You throw a sealed box in your trunk ("front chamber"), which is of a given size...the bass passes through holes and cracks ("ports") into the car's interior.

For the most part, I'd say that the sedan-trunk mounting just makes it sound worse...but since you're doing your setup as a specific design, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
