Default Help with new system

Hi all,

I'm new to this so I figured I would consult this forum for some advice before I wasted any of my money!

I have a 2006 chevy silverado extended cab truck in which I would like to upgrade the stock sound system.

I'm not looking for a top of the line sound system, but as a musician, I would appreciate a system which could play my favorite tunes with some clarity, because, lets face it, chevy sells a pretty Sh!tty stock system.

Having some other finical commitments, I'm not looking to upgrade the whole system at once. I will probably do it in two stages. In the end I would like to upgrade the four speaks, the head unit, and install a powered sub under the rear seat. For the first stage, I was thinking of upgrading the four speakers, because it sounds like the front drivers side speaker is blown. Then for the seconded stage, I intend to upgrade the stock head unit, and add a powered sub.

Like I said earlier, I am new to this, so I would really appreciate some advice on what gear I should buy.

One of my buddies recommended that I go with all kenwood excelon gear. He said that it will give me a pretty clear sound, and not kill my budget.

I was thinking of putting these in the front http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._KFC-X173.aspx and these in the back http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._KFC-X460.aspx

What is the consensus on those, or is there something better I could use? Also, any recommendations on which head unit and powered sub I should use, or any general system recommendations?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

JL Audio's Stealthboxes are fantastic solutions of bass vs. space. Find your truck and check it out. The ALL sound good!

You can definitely upgrade in stages...

Hello: you may want to post on the GM-Chevy truck owners forums. This site has an audio/electronics section and there are some installers who belong to this forum. I am a member. (GM Truck Club)

The link above is for their audio/video/gadget tech section.

There are some manufacturers who make sub boxes that fit under the rear seat of extended cab trucks. You may have to do some internal modification to get the volume to match the requirements of the specific sub woofer you install.

Kenwood Excelon is excellent product. I have owned two of their decks over the years and the sound is excellent, the features very good and the customer support is also excellent. You call their number in California and actually get to talk directly with a tech support person about your problem.

Sony also has very nice decks in my opinion. If you know what to look for, there are some excellent old school amplifiers for sale on eBay. That is where I buy my amplifiers and some other things. Some I buy new but the amplifiers I buy are all older U.S. made amps.
