A friend is is doing some work on a car that has an after market deck that controls the stock alarm.

Once the batt was removed and then replaced the alarm would go off and the car would not start.

WE got passed the noise maker and can get the car to start but not run for long.

It is a 95 Chevy Lumina.

Any suggestions?

Sorry but there is no Factory alarm on a 95 Lumina. Also there is no alarm that is routed through the radio.

More than likley you disconnected the battey. When the battery was reconneted, the old alarm triggered. If you do not have the remote, disconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and then reconnect the battery. It should start now.

Sounds like you just need to do an idle relearn on it. Common on early 90's chevrolets after disconnecting the battery. Basically just start it and let it idle until the fan kicks on, then goes off, then comes on again. After that you can drive it and it should be good. Only trick obviously it might not start and stay idling right off the back might take a few tries. Do a google search for it if you need a more in depth explanation. It will eventually learn by itself, but it's going to take a few days or weeks of you driving around not knowing if the car will stay running at a stop light or stall out. Not fun..

Pioneer did make a radio with a horn output; I can't remember if it had a starter kill as well?

Is the radio by chance a Pioneer unit with the logo "DFS" on the front?
