The power you get out is parabolically relative to the money put in. How fast do you want to be? Do you want to just beat some Mustangs, or do you want to beat a Murcielago?

Get an A4 better starting point, better car, besides, everybody now does a civic.

Yeah, but an A4 is just a bit pricier than a Civic. If he was in the market for an Audi he probably wouldn't be asking about a Civic.

Can pick up a used one though for the price of a new civic.

I agree that a civic isn't the way to go if you're looking for speed. Very few street-driven hondas go faster than 12s. If you can't afford an Audi, maybe a DSM or some other turbo car. If you mod the **** out of a civic you're probably looking at around 300 WHP.

The DOHC engines will do well over that with little effort, but you are right about not too many "fast" ones. Getting a lot of power isn't the problem tho. Getting the car to hook up is. Start with some kind of posi unit. For a motor, any of the DOHC engines is extremely buildable, and most will either bolt in or will with a kit, especially the B series. And there are all kinds of supercharger and turbo kits available for them. If you run much boost you'll need to either re-sleeve the block or add a block guard. Fromm there you add whatever performance parts you want. Sooo many options.
