Hey guys,
Is it possible to use the factory XM antenna with an aftermarket XM tuner on this truck? Or can you use both the antenna and the tuner with an aftermarket radio? I did a search and didn't come up with much. Thanks.

I would not suggest using the stock antenna. It should have the single connection like the XM commander, roadie and skyfi. There has been a lot of complaints about drop outs with the stock antenna. The Mini Delphi antenna will work with any XM tuner. You will need a splitter for the older tunder to go from 1 wire to 2.
A lot of dropouts becuase they used a single connection instead of a splitter?

the factory xm unit is behind the glovebox, yes you can use the antenna, it has 2 leads just like a pioneer or alpine, and they work real well, you just have to tape them so they will stay in the unit, because the clips are different

Our XM rep told us that they get a lot of complaints about the GM stock antenna. I was unaware that it still used the old style two prong antenna. Any dropouts are bad in my book. If you have to pay for service it needs to be as close to 100% as possible.
The adaptor mentioned is for the new style antenna on older units. There is no adaptor for old antennas to new units.

Could the XM rep be telling you this because he wants you to buy more antennas from him? Paul, you say it works great, has anyone experienced first hand the poor performance of the stock antenna?

I did one i a vehicle over a year ago and it worked great with a Pioneer box, no problems
I have factory XM in our Escalade and it has never had a drop out
It is a two wire connection behind the glovebox

He's a XM rep not a delphi/terk rep. All he cares about is service. He said that GM has issues with their antennas. It's a known issues and maybe it's been fixed by now.

Works great for XM or Sirius. Have yet to hear a complaint on dropouts or anything else antenna related.

I've had nerly zero problems with single prong antennas from either service on any brand of equipment so far. I haven't done any aftermarket boxes with factory antennas though..
i did an 03 sierra denali w/ ivad900+tuat020+pxah700 and used a terk antenna extender deal on the factory antenna....worked totally great, no drop outs yet....
