I had an idea about the bi-weekly class. I feel that my major lack of knowlegde is in the amplifier section (where you are specialyst). So, maybe starting with something really simple (with pics :D ), with descriptions and so.
I would point some goals (objectives. It would be hard to reach).
Maybe:
-Indentify amplifier sections
-Understand how they work
-Disticts amp classes
-A little deeper knowlegde on output section (you know, where the signal gets "hot")
Don't know what other guys think about it... Comments?

I think that's a great idea. I know the very basic way an amp works but would love to know details. graemlins/idea.gif graemlins/thumb.gif

How about we make this thread the one for bi-weekly topic ideas.
Amplifier idea sounds great. Rob would know more than me... I basically only know classes (A-D) and the positives and negatives of each.

I'd be more than willing. Might even need to make it weekly to get things rolling fast enough. smile.gif
I'm going to start writing the first installment this weekend.

I am definitely down with the amplifier identification info. I'd like to be able to pull the cover off and say "Good. 105 degree capacitors. Beefy power suppy." Only, I don't know which ones are the capacitors and which ones are the power supplies?? I'm completely lost. I'd also like to know which parts are worth replacing and with what. Like can you just swap out a 85 degree capacitor with an equivilant value 105 degree piece and not screw anything up? Can you replace carbon film 5% with metal film 1% and not screw anything up?

I have a basic understanding of how an amp works... But like lakersfan1 I want to learn enough so I can trouble shoot, repair, and possibly mod..
I have a feeling it will take quite a lot of reading/studying, and probably an investment for a scope... but it sound like fun to me!!

Rob's next column: "Wire positive to positive and negative to negative"
that should be a long and in depth column of news reporting ;)
