Could someone explain the "window line" rule to me in the slap db Stock 1-160 class? Also, if the rear seats are folded down, is there a problem with sliding the box back about 2 to 3 inches onto it during my run?

I know what you're thinking, "Why don't you just buy the IDBL rule book?". I figure if the SLAP rules are going to be slightly different and posted on their web site for free someday, then why not save the money and buy a new fuse or something.

PS-Terry, could I have a membership number?

PS-Terry, could I have a membership number?Good point. The Idbl rules are considerably different from SLAPdB. Stan and I are always here to answer questions and we promised to have the
complete SLAP dB rules on the web site very soon.

Your membership packet went out yesterday.

Window line: bottom edge of the rear window, or in some vehicles side windows.

Even if the rear seat folds down, your enclosure MUST remain in the hatch/trunk/rear compartment. It may NOT be "on" a rear seat unless you're in Super Stock.

Hope that helps,
TM

so putting a box on the rear seat of a car puts it in ss?? i was thinking that the back of the front door jamb rule still applied... also, how far forward can anything protrude past the door jamb in SS?? can my sub/box be partially in front of the back of the front door jamb edge in ss1-260??

One more thing, are there any restrictions on amp/battery placement? Can I mount my amps on top of the sub enclosure even if the amps (not the enclosure) are above the window line? I know I'm full of questions, but I just don't want to get to finals and get disqualified because of some tech-NO-cality!

Enclosure may not be past the jam.
STOCK classes my have FULL OEM interior (front and rear seats, etc) and enclosure must be in the rear storage area (hatch, trunk, etc)
Hope that helps,

No mounting to the exterior, which I've seen before. (we're talking Stock, SUPER Stock here)

Amps on top of the box is OK.

And hey no DQs! We're like NASCAR, if you don't pass inspection, you'll be told how to fix it...
dead blow hammers, saws-alls, and Bondo can come in handy :D

Hope that helps,

coughcoughrulebook on websitecoughcough... little breezy in here ;) Pro Stock is a STOCK class, with the exception of people who are in the industry are allowed to compete. This is a class for the average guy who works at a store and would like to compete SPL but doesn't want to have to destroy his car.

Electrical upgrades are fine in any class.

Guy's we're almost done with the SLAP dB rulebook and hopefully will have it posted as a PDF by early next week or maybe sooner.

So Terry, since I am building a 1987 CRX does this mean the box must me under the rear window or the side windows????

the box must be lower than the rear window unless the side window is lower????
if that is the case why don't you make the rule "The box must be lower than the driver and passenger windows"
it gets kind of confusing when the rule will change from one type of vehicle to the next...it should be standard for all vehicles.

let me know so i can start building.

thanks

thanksIt's not that hard at all. Think of it like this: The intent of the stock classes is that the enclosure must be contained in the factory-intended storage area (hatch, trunk, etc). Fudge outside that intended area and you'll be SUPER stock. There is a defined area that makes up the hatch in the CRX. If you stay in that area your fine.
That being said, in some vehicles the defined hatch area may not be so definate, especially with some panels removed. Window lines will not change in stock vehicles, so they serve as a firmer point of reference, much the way the back of the front door jam does for SUPER Stock.

The CRX is a great little SPL monster. Now get building!

Thanks for the quick responses Terry. I appreciate you taking your time to answer the questions and concerns of us competitors.

I am asking these questions just so that everything is clear to me. This is my first experience with your organazation and just want to make sure that the vehicle is 100% within your approval. I just want everything in black and white. Some organazations use grey ink to write the rule book and these "grey area's" create lots of issues and people b!tching....I want to avoid this at all costs in SLAP. Also please don't change the rules several times throughout the season...that sucks too.

You didn't clearly satisfy my question though...
I understand the intent of the Stock classes but I am still not clear about the window line.

....Is it the rear window or the side door windows???? Please be explicit so that this can be policed throughout the season.

One last question. Are cargo vans allowed in the stock class??

Thanks Terry.

I will grab my saw and get to work. graemlins/thumb.gif

I will grab my saw and get to work. graemlins/thumb.gif Well. Let's start with the main rule (see rulebook now downloadable on the web site).
"Enclosure must be completely contained within the factory rear storage compartment (hatch, trunk or luggage area) or behind the rear seat in trucks. Enclosure may not come above the rear window line of the vehicle (includes back, quarter and door glasses)."
You must meet the first rule, which is easy to judge in most vehicles (your CRX has a very defined hatch area, the top of which is just below the side window.) You mentioned a cargo van, this one good example of a vehicle where the defined rear storage may not be so clear, so window lines would be used as the reference. Even if the cargo van had no rear seats the enclosure still must be behind where the rear seats would be if it was a "finished out" version of the same van. Any advantage of a van is more than likely offset by the huge amount of airspace that must be compressed...somewhere where a small car like a CRX has a leg up...
Let the competition begin... graemlins/thumb.gif
